Toast integration
ShelfCount is building a Toast integration that works the same way our Square integration does: connect your restaurant, map your menu to recipes, and every sale gets costed automatically.
Current status: we’ve applied for Toast partner access and we’re waiting on their approval — this isn’t something we can turn on ourselves. You can still pick Toast as your POS during onboarding today; we’ll save your choice and email you the moment the connection goes live. No action needed on your end in the meantime.
What it will do
- Menu sync — pull your Toast menu items, modifier groups, and modifier options so you can map them, the same as we do with a Square catalog today.
- Sales sync — pull orders from Toast on a regular cycle (roughly every 15 minutes) so reports stay close to live.
- Costed sales & COGS — once a menu item is mapped to a recipe, every sale of it feeds your food cost reports, same as Square: theoretical usage and cost, held up against what your counts say you actually used.
How connecting will work
Toast doesn’t hand out API access per restaurant the way Square does. Instead, restaurants connect to approved partners like ShelfCount through Toast Partner Connect, and we match that connection to your account by restaurant GUID — a unique ID Toast assigns to your restaurant. You’ll enter that GUID once, either during onboarding or later from your Toast settings, and we’ll pick up the sync automatically once Toast confirms the connection on their end.
You can find your restaurant GUID in Toast Web (your Toast back office) under your restaurant’s general settings. If you have more than one Toast restaurant, each one has its own GUID and can be added separately.
Mapping menu items to recipes
Once connected, mapping will work just like it does for Square: each Toast menu item points at a recipe (or directly at an item, for simple retail products). Unmapped items sync but can’t be costed until you map them, and a running to-do keeps track of what’s left.
